Some Gentle Winter Walks

If you're lucky enough to be in the Lake District over the Christmas holiday season and you fancy a stroll to burn off that turkey then don't forget we've got lots of gentle walks for you to try. Here's a few examples, two of which also take you to Wainwright tops, but you can use our walk finder to find lots more gentle walks:

• Skiddaw Shepherd's Memorial - if you're in Keswick and just want a short stroll then a wander up to the Skiddaw Shepherd's Memorial makes for an interesting outing.

• The Old Keswick Railway Line and Latrigg - also from Keswick but a little more strenuous this walk out along the old railway line and then back over Latrigg is bound to be popular over Christmas.

• Dunmallet - this pleasant stroll situated at the head of Ullswater is ideal for a short winter's afternoon. It takes you to the top of Dunmallet and its iron age fort.

• An Ambleside Waterfalls Wander - Stockghyll Force and Blue Hill Wood - this great little walk from Ambleside takes you up Stock Ghyll to the Stockghyll Force waterfall and then on through Blue Hill woods for a view over the town. (If you want something a bit shorter than there's also Stockghyll Force - Ambleside which just takes you to Stockghyll Force.)
