The main road into Borrowdale from Keswick, which has been closed for emergency repair work, will partially re-open this Monday, 17th March. The B5289, which skirts along the east of Derwent Water and is the main access road for communities along Borrowdale including Grange, Rosthwaite and Seatoller, has been closed both ways since 10th February at the point where the side road climbs up to Watendlath.
The closure was put in place while Cumbria County Council carried out essential repairs to a retaining wall at the side of the road. It had been expected the road would remain closed for six weeks while works were carried out, but council highways team have pulled out all the stops to reopen the road a week ahead of schedule.
Weather permitting, one lane of the road will reopen with traffic controls from Monday, 17th March while the works are completed.
The council would like to thank local businesses and road users for their patience during the closure and apologises for any inconvenience.
