National Walking Month 2014

May has been declared as National Walking Month by Living Streets, a charity aiming to get people walking again. Their focus is primarily on walking in the urban environment, hence their name, but they're being supported by organisations such as the British Heart Foundation.

As the last of these point out:

Walking is one of the simplest forms of physical activity. It has great health benefits and almost everyone can do it.

Walking helps to reduce blood pressure, tones muscles and strengthens your bones, helps to control your weight and can also boost your energy levels and improve your mood.

We can only agree.

WalkLakes recognises that hill walking, or walking in the mountains, is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death.
Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
