Completing Rounds

If you're registered on our site then you will have noticed that the link top which used to say "your log book" now says "your rucksack" and, if you click it, then in there you will find details of any purchases you've made but also a link to your log book and we've been doing some work recently to improve the log book.

What we've added is the ability to complete a "round".

So if, like Beth, you're a keen fell walker you'll eventually get to the point where you've logged every Wainwright fell and your total in the forum below your avatar will show as 214.

Which is fine, but suppose you want to start again?

And that's where rounds come in. When you've bagged all the hills with a particular classification you can tell our software that you've completed a round. The software asks you what date you completed the round on and then puts any record it has of an ascent of a hill with that classification which is either undated or dated on or before that date into the current round.

Any hills dated after that date are not included in the round1.

This is a bit complicated written down and it's probably best illustrated by showing you it in action so here's a little video I've made of Beth completing a round on our test system. When watching it note that I highlight Blea Rigg and say I'll come back to it later but then forget and refer to Birkhouse Moor the second time ... but the same comments are relevant to both.

I also mention Beth's climbed Cat Bells twice in her second round. It's perhaps worth pointing out for avoidance of doubt that this only counts once in the total of 18 out of a possible 214 Wainwrights.

So, on the right, here's Beth's avatar in the forum after she's marked the round as completed and you can see that next to Wainwrights it now say 1r 18 which means she's completed one round and bagged another 18 since.

  1. An important side note: you can say you've completed a round but backdate it so that, when the software comes to mark off the round it can't find a log entry for that date or an undated entry. In this case it will create a new, undated entry, in order to fill in the gap. This feature lets you quickly log previous rounds from before you started using our software but should be used with care.
