Honister Slate Mine Via Ferrata Extension

A controversial extension to the Honister Slate Mine Via Ferrata has finally after protracted negotiations been given the go ahead by planners.

The Extreme builds on the already award winning Via Ferrata available at the mine and is shortlisted in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2012. The new route is hoped to be open in June 2012.

Via Ferrata are better known in Europe, with only two others in the UK: the Elie Chainwalk in Scotland and How Stean Gorge in the Yorkshire Dales.
