Gauging Stations Update

You may have already seen the post in our blog but we've spent the last few days working on the water levels overlay. We've fixed some issues with the popups shown in the overlay:

• the data shown for Scottish ones was missing, although we were still linking to the SEPA page with all the details so not all was lost
• the data shown on the English ones was all zeros, but again we were still linking to the Environment Agency page

We've also updated our database of gauging stations as they do come and go. As a result of that exercise:

• in England we've gone from 1,901 to 2,437
• in Scotland we've gone from 348 to 374
• in Wales we've gone from 200 to 276

This then lead us on to looking west and we had a good result for Ireland where we now have 444 gauging stations, see the map in our Mastodon post, and the popup shows you the current level and whether it's rising or falling with a link through to the station's own page.

In Northern Ireland we were less successful - not unusual in our experence, they do seem to make it hard for third parties there - but we now have 125 for Northern Ireland, see the map in our Bluesky post (spreading the social media love across our accounts ). Sadly we can't yet deep link to individual gauging stations but we can show their locations and give you a link to a map on another site where they can.

So the bottom line is that we've gone from 2449 gauging stations in three of the five countries in the British Isles to 3656 across the whole of the British Isles.
