External Links for Hills

We've just made two changes to our hill database to add some external links to more information you may find useful. Firstly we're linking to the relevant Hill Summit Area page if there is one. The Hill Summit Area site encourages users to post photos of tops and aims eventually to have at least one photo for every hill in the Database of British and Irish hills. Currently they have photos of 3525 out of the 7827 hills in our database1.

Secondly we're starting to link to the relevant page for each hill on Wikipedia. This process is going to take some time but as an opening gambit we've done every hill listed with a valid link on the List of hills in the Lake District page in Wikipedia2.

To give you an example of these new features in action Skiddaw already has both of these external links in place.

  1. We can't show the photos directly on our site as the licensing conditions for each photo aren't clear beyond their use on the Hill Summit Area site.
  2. While doing so we also fixed some minor errors in that list!

WalkLakes recognises that hill walking, or walking in the mountains, is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death.
Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
