First time visitors to Wasdale are naturally drawn to Scafell Pike, the highest summit in England, and we published our two straightforward routes up there recently but there are lots of walks which start from Wasdale Head. We mentioned some last month, now here's a couple more:
Wast Water, Illgill Head and Whin Rigg
Kirk Fell and Great Gable - the towering fells of Kirk Fell and Great Gable stand at the head of Wasdale. A circuit of the two fells from the village green makes for a great relaxed day walk, or you could nip round in an afternoon if keen. Both hills offer great views of the surrounding fells and down Wast Water.
Illgill Head and Whin Rigg - the twin tops of Illgill Head and Whin Rigg form a wide grassy ridge along the eastern shore of Wast Water. This walk takes you from Brackenclose at the head of Wast Water, along the ridge where you can look down on the screes from above. Dropping off the ridge beside the impressive Greathall Gill it returns along the road for another look at the screes across the water.
And remember our Lake District Walk Finder has lots more walks for you to try if none of these take your fancy.
WalkLakes recognises that hill walking, or walking in the mountains, is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death.
Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
