• Hills Database Updated

We've just imported the latest version of the Database of British and Irish hills. There's a lot of changes, mostly minor, with tops moving and heights being more accurately measured.

We've just imported the latest version of the Database of British and Irish hills. We were previously on version 16.1 and we're now on 17.4 which was released on 14th July 2022. Our apologies that it's taken so long to get this release online but it was a big one.  read more ...


• Thirlmere Fell Care Day

Thirlmere has taken a bit of a bruising this year so the Friends of the Lake District want people to join them to give a bit of time and care back to this special place at their Thirlmere Fell Care Day.

We've just imported the latest version of the Database of British and Irish hills. 45 were added including Lease Knott in the Lakes and there's also lots of other changes, mostly minor.

We've just imported the latest version of the Database of British and Irish hills which adds another four British hills to our database. We were previously on version 16 and we're now on 16.1 which was released on 3rd August 2018.  read more ...

• Classifying Hills

A new Munro was discovered this week ... or was it?

There was some news this week that, to quote The Scotsman, "Scotland could be getting a new Munro". This made us smile as it's unlikely, even though the hill Mullach nan Coirean East Top which lies between Kinlochleven and Fort William has been re-measured and it's been found that rather than being 910m (2986ft) tall it is 916.6m (3007ft). Hence everyone is getting excited because "a Munro is a hill in Scotland over 3000ft".  read more ...
